2- Gestalt Theory:

Proponents of the Gestalt approach emphasize the importance of the structural organization of the situation that includes a problem, and the formation of a new structure from old ideas. From their perspective, problems are merely cognitive problems that appear when tension or stress occurs as a result of the interaction between perception and focusing factors.

3- Cognitive Theory:

Cognitive theorists have focused on problem-solving as an activity involving several cognitive processes (remembering, attention, thinking). This stage involves multiple activities such as retrieving facts and methods from long-term memory, examining and scrutinizing the information available in the problem’s environmental context, then processing the short-term memory content, storing information in long-term memory for possible future use, and then producing the solution.

3- Judgment Stage:

Known as evaluating the inferred solutions, it includes activities such as comparing the inferred solution with solution criteria or standards, choosing a basis for selecting the decision that fits the similar constraints in the problem, and then reaching a decision to solve the problem or that it still requires more work, thinking, or information.

 

Steps to Apply the Problem-solving Method in Education:

The steps of problem-solving in education are divided into five steps:

  1. Feeling the problem: The problem lies in the difficulty that the learner faces and wants to solve, overcome it, and it may be a visible phenomenon that they see but cannot understand.
  2. Identifying the problem: This means formulating the problem within a sentence or a few sentences with the help of the teacher. The formulation may be in the form of a declarative sentence, a conditional style, or a questioning style.
  3. Collecting relevant information to solve the problem: In this step, the tools for finding solutions to the problem are identified, and references, sources, books, and even institutions from which the information was collected are monitored.
  4. Testing solutions and choosing the appropriate one: This is done by implementing the proposed solutions and selecting what represents a solution to the presented problem.
  5. Reaching results and generalizing them: Generalization is done by conducting a number of experiments that support the conclusion reached.

Problem-based education requires a number of necessary conditions for its implementation, including:
