The inductive method:is a scientific process that relies on moving from general rules to specific cases, and the researcher begins with premises, or general hypotheses that are known or proven, and applies them to specific cases; to derive logical results, and the inductive method includes analyzing general issues and applying scientific principles to specific facts; with the aim of reaching new facts, or confirming the validity of certain hypotheses (Sayer, 2010).

 

Steps of the Inductive Method in Scientific Research

Applying the inductive method in scientific research requires following a set of methodological steps, which are:

First: Formulating the Hypothesis

The inductive process begins with formulating a hypothesis, or a set of hypotheses that are based on a theory, or a general law, and the hypothesis must be specific and testable, as the subsequent process depends on the validity of this hypothesis.

Second: Analyzing the Hypotheses

In this step, the researcher analyzes the hypotheses by applying scientific logic to them, and the analysis must be precise and consistent with the general laws used in the research.

Third: Testing the Results

After applying the general hypotheses to specific cases, the derived results are tested; to verify their validity, and this stage is crucial, as the validity of the conclusions is verified based on the evidence that has been collected.

Fourth: Generalization

If the results are proven valid, the researcher can generalize these results to apply them to similar cases, and this generalization is part of the strength of the inductive method, as it can provide conclusions applicable on a wide scale.

The inductive method is of great importance in scientific research for several reasons:

In contrast, the inductive method starts from facts or individual cases, from which a general rule or theory is inferred, and the fundamental difference is that the inductive method relies on collecting and analyzing data to develop theories, while the deductive method relies on applying theories to derive results.

Third: the Fundamental Difference

The fundamental difference between the two methods lies in the path of thinking, as deduction moves from the general to the specific, while induction moves from the specific to the general, and the deductive method is more precise in analyzing hypotheses and deriving results, while the inductive method is useful for collecting data to form theories.
